Forest biomass map of the northern hemisphere

07.06.2011 - Proteccion del medio ambiente

Researchers from the University of Jena, Germany, and the European Space Agency (ESA) want to alleviate global climate change forecasts by generating a complete map from the forests on the northern hemisphere. The forest’s magnitude implies how much carbon dioxide can be altered. The map of the northern hemisphere should be the first step towards a global forest biomass map. Up to now, this has been based on approximation. The forests on the northern hemisphere build the largest woodland on earth. That is why they are especially important for the carbon cycle.
