Climate change seriously affects the Arctic

Since 1972 the estival ice in the Arctic has shrunk by about 50 percent to 4.24 million square kilometres, the institute of environmental physics of the University of Bremen informed. With that a new record minimum is reached. According to Georg Heygster of the aforesaid institute, the climate change seriously affects the Arctic. The recent decline of the ice cover cannot be explained by the natural, yearly appearing variations any more. Moreover, the average ice thickness has also decreased.
