Soot particles increase temperatures in the Arctic
According to the survey, almost half of the increase in temperature in the Arctic can be attributed to soot particles. As soot settles on ice and snow, these surfaces absorb a higher quantity of solar heat. In turn, the melting process is hastened. For the first time ever, the survey proves that black carbon soot provokes global warming. That could be slowed down drastically by avoiding black carbon emissions – for example with particulate filters for diesel-engined vehicles.
