The international programme “Klima-SAF” focuses on the monitoring of the world climate via satellites and is conducted by the German weather service (DWD). Analyses of the DWD show, that the Average annual temperature in Germany has increased by 1.1 degree from 1880 until today. Until the year 2100, it will become at least another two to four degrees warmer in Germany. Karl Trauernicht, senior official at the federal ministry for transport, building and urban affairs, emphasised: “Statements to climate change are only possible, if we succeed in obtaining, archiving, keeping and analysing data sustainably. We need to recognize and understand the climate change to project it into the future and estimate its impact.” This data can be gained via satellites.
