Home owners and tenants build on sustainability
More than 70 percent of owner builders and tenants are willing to accept higher building costs or rents if buildings meet sustainability standards. That was the finding of a study by the consulting firm Roland Berger.
The study promises positive future developments particularly in regard to CO2 emissions, because residential and commercial buildings in the OECD countries currently account for 30 percent of all CO2 emissions. According to the Federal Building Ministry, a building that has been retrofitted for sustainability saves 50 percent of its previous energy consumption, or an annual average of four metric tons of CO2 per housing unit.
