Lights out for climate protection
This action is meant to show that environmental and climate protection are taken seriously and that the decisions reached at the last climate conference in Copenhagen are not a satisfactory solution. The so-called World Hour is being organized by the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).
Since 2007, the organization has called on people to participate in similar events in various parts of the world. It started on March 31, 2007 with the symbolic “earth hour” in Australia. At 7.30 p.m., many people in Sydney turned the lights off and thus drew attention to the energy wasted through unnecessary lighting, high electricity consumption and possible ways to save energy. This action was followed by many others in different cities around the world.
