This is what climate protection looks like.

High energy efficiency, lower costs

Recycling to protect the environment

The recycling and waste management industry can contribute to a third of the cuts needed to achieve the EU's climate protection target. This is the outcome of the event "Conserving Resources and Protecting the Environment by Recycling," held by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and the German Federal Association for Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Disposal (BVSE).

By the year 2020, recycling activities can save the equivalent of 244 million metric tons of CO2. This corresponds to almost one-third of the climate protection target set by the EU. Melanie Huml, State Secretary in the State Ministry of the Environment, explains, "Recycling management makes a significant contribution to efforts to conserve resources—and by extension—to protecting the environment." It also holds a great deal of future potential for both the economy and the environment. A large amount of greenhouse gases can be saved simply by processing various waste streams into secondary materials.
