Protecting against UV rays
The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) warns that solar rays can, in spite of their positive effect on the well-being of people, also cause physical damage.
Indeed, UV rays have such a high energy content that they can damage the genes of humans. Although repair enzymes fix small flaws, the genetic material is permanently changed when skin is repeatedly burned by UV light. The cells degenerate, leading to premature ageing of the skin and, in the worst case, to skin cancer. Therefore, it is important to protect the skin against UV rays, even in normal sunlight. Special creams or sunscreens provide such protection.
