Recycling
Rag-and-bone men were among the first to perform professional recycling. They collected waste to sell it to other users. Their business flourished when book printing was invented, because at that time paper was made from old rags.
Rather than old clothes, recycling plants nowadays recycle paper, glass, metals and organic waste. Plastics can be incinerated to use the energy stored within them (thermal recycling), or reground, melted and turned into new products (mechanical recycling).
A special plant that breaks PLEXIGLAS® down into its original constituents uses a different process (chemical recycling). The advantages are savings in resources. The original constituent of PLEXIGLAS® is freed from foreign matter, and less waste is produced. That protects the environment and provides products of almost identical quality.
PLEXIGLAS® can be recycled by means of a manufacturing process that is unique in Europe. There is no material loss.
